The STIB manages the Brussels metro, bus and tram network. The public transport system operates between 5.30 am and 12.30 am approximately, depending on the destination.
The Brussels metro has three lines cutting the city north/south and east/west : the GREEN line 1A, the RED line 1B and the ORANGE line 2. The direction indicated on the front of the car lists the last stop in that direction.
Entrances to metro stations are indicated by a large white “M” on a blue background. The nearest metro station to our furnished apartments is “Porte de Namur”, with “Louise” a close second.
You can pick up a map of the public transportation network at information stands in the following stations : Porte de Namur, Rogier and Gare du Midi (South Station). Timetables for all bus, tram and metro routes are featured on the STIB website.
Tickets are sold in the underground stations. A single journey entitles you to an hour’s travel on the city’s entire public transport system (including trams and buses). Return journeys are allowed within the hour. Each time you change from tram to metro or bus you should punch the ticket (the machine will automatically detect whether you’re still within the allotted 1 hour’s travel time).
Types of Tickets :
·Single journey : €1.50. Good for one single journey on Brussels services.
·One-day ticket : €3.80. Good for 24 hours of unlimited travel on Brussels services. Two adults can travel together on weekends and bank holidays.
·Five-journey card : €6.50. Good for five separate journeys on Brussels services.
·Group card : €6.50. Offers unlimited travel (not including Airport Line 12 between NATO and the airport) for groups of five travelling together. Applies to weekdays after 9 am, weekends and bank holidays.

If you are using public transport on a daily basis, monthly and yearly tickets are better value. Different types of passes are available depending on the type of traveller. Again, these tickets can be bought at the Porte de Namur, Rogier, and Midi stations. You will need your Id card/passport and two passport-sized photos.
Hi,
What is the advantage of the ten-journey card over the one-day ticket?
Thank you,

The ten-journey card allows you to travel 10 times over an indefinite period of time, whereas the 1 day-ticket allows you free access to the whole Stib network for 1 day only.
