The STIB manages the Brussels metro, bus and tram network. The public transport system operates between 5.30 am and 12.30 am approximately, depending on the destination.
The Brussels metro has three lines cutting the city north/south and east/west : the GREEN line 1A, the RED line 1B and the ORANGE line 2. The direction indicated on the front of the car lists the last stop in that direction.
Entrances to metro stations are indicated by a large white “M” on a blue background. The nearest metro station to our furnished apartments is “Porte de Namur”, with “Louise” a close second.
You can pick up a map of the public transportation network at information stands in the following stations : Porte de Namur, Rogier and Gare du Midi (South Station). Timetables for all bus, tram and metro routes are featured on the STIB website.
Tickets are sold in the underground stations. A single journey entitles you to an hour’s travel on the city’s entire public transport system (including trams and buses). Return journeys are allowed within the hour. Each time you change from tram to metro or bus you should punch the ticket (the machine will automatically detect whether you’re still within the allotted 1 hour’s travel time).
