The Ommegang - meaning "walk around" in Flemish, is a historic pageant which re-enacts the entry into Brussels of Charles V and his court in 1549. First a colourful procession with flying banners and pennants starts at the Sablon Church and goes to the Grand-Place. It winds its way on foot and horse, with 600 people in the cortege. When the procession of the court arrives on the Grand Place, the “Royal Guests” take their places on the viewing stands and a flag procession and horse parade gets underway, followed by games and entertainment. This theatrical representation involves 1400 performers ! Everyone can go along and watch the procession. However, you will need tickets for one of the 3000 seating places for the show on the Grand’Place. Reservation can be made by fax (02/548 04 48) or by e-mail.
Further information can be obtain on the Ommegang official web-site.
